The war on plastic presses on, a single-use straws and plastic items continue to be banned and phased out of cities and companies around the globe. Yet, another place we often forget about is the grocery store, and no we aren’t just referring to the bags you use to haul out your goodies.
To show the world that there is a sustainable alternative, Made Thought shed some more light on Ekoplaza’s Plastic Free Aisle that launched earlier this year in Amsterdam by recreating the aisle for London’s Design Museum.
This installation displays plastic-free packages for over 700 products, such as biofilm made from trees and plants that will decompose within 12 weeks in an at-home compost arranged in a propaganda-style aesthetic.
Each item, in collaboration with environmental grassroots organization A Plastic Planet, features Made Thought’s plastic-free logo which adorns all of the displayed products, the floors, and even the aisles.
“Our approach is about education, approachability and clear, effective design to drive understanding and change behavior. It was our view that too much of the communication on sustainability either feels fear and guilt-driven or so serious and huge that the average person can’t engage with it,” shared Made Thought founding partner Ben Parker in a press release..
Between the installation that will be on display from September 12 to January 2019 and Ekoplaza’s impressive goal to launch a plastic-free aisle in all 74 branches by the end of the year, progress towards a greener, less plastic-filled world is en route.
